So far so good

So far so good on the new IV antibiotic. No allergic reaction that we can visibly see (of course we couldn't see anything on the meropenem either).

She didn't get the meropenem last night or this morning (because of the blood results/supposed allergic reaction.) And she was actually smiling this morning...which we haven't seen in a long time. So maybe she really didn't like the meropenem. Or perhaps the infection is being eradicated. Either way she seemed to be feeling much better today.

Incision still looks good. No fevers. Good day.

The new antibiotic is twice a day for 3 weeks then once a day after that. Yea! As I said in a previous post...twice a day is not nearly as big of a deal...because we already give meds twice a day.

Plus this IV med is easier than the meropenem because the meropenem comes in a elastomeric device (a ball filled with medicine---like a water balloon---when you hook it up and unclamp it--the pressure pushes the medicine into the IV) which took 45 minutes to administer, then you had to remember to come back and unhook it and flush the line. This new one is a "Push" IV med...so we just push it into the line with a syringe and can be done in 5-10 minutes total.

That will be much easier to do the antibiotic meds twice a day, along with everything else. Very efficient. See? Aren't you glad she was allergic to that other one you had to give three times a day? ;) This just made things much better!
