We have checked in...we have talked with the Nurse Practitioner and are just waiting to be taken back. She was scheduled for a 9:30 surgery time (she was first on Dr. Klatt's schedule...but 9:30 was his first patient). We still need to meet with the nurse, the Dr. and the Anesthesiologist.

They also came in and did an ultrasound of her veins to find a good one to place the PICC line. It looks like it will be in her right arm just above the bend inside the elbow.

They thread the PICC line all the way (inside the vein) to where the large vein empties into the heart. Then they use X-ray to make sure it is in place. They use the PICC line instead of an IV because they last longer and there is not so much burning/irritation from the IV antibiotics. It drains right into the heart so it gets mixed into the blood and pumped throughout the body more quickly.

She is slated for an hour surgery time.
