Waiting...waiting

We woke early to be down here by 6 AM. Surgery start time was supposed to be 7:30. They took her back at 4 minutes to 8 AM. They were scheduled for 4 hours. 3 hours for actual surgery and 1 hour for anesthesia/set up/clean up. They said they would call about and hour and a half to 2 hours in. So any minute now. Hopefully.

We found out this morning that they take harvested bone (from someone else) and lay it over her own spine to encourage her own spine to grow over the rods to strengthen them. This is fusing the spine. The Dr. said that the cells were removed from the bone so it actually looked a lot like corral. Hmmm?! Interesting. Somehow I missed this portion of the rods lesson (the part about using harvested bone and making her own spine grow over the rods). Anyway, it doesn't matter. But It's nice to be informed.

She will have a morphine pump after surgery. They are going to leave her intubated for a while after surgery (in PICU).

I hate seeing her intubated, but it is OK because then it gives her more time to wake up without feeling pressure...like "Why isn't she waking up?"
