Dry Lips

Sat 4/15/17...day 12

Yesterday after adjusting her pressures up and her rate down she seemed to be doing better.

2 small desats on bipap during night needing suctioning.  (This is in addition to the every 4 hours vibrating vest and nebulizer meds and suctioning).

So she still has a lot of junk in lungs to clear.

When the Dr's listened to her this morning (on bipap) they said she was moving good air and had no crackles or focal.points.  That is great.  Lungs are getting more healthy.

We have 2 goals for this hospital stay.

#1) get mostly over virus...at least enough that we are not needing to suction every 2 hours around the clock.

#2) get lungs open and more healthy.  Remember about 2 weeks before coming in we had done a chest xray and the lower lobes ( bottom parts) of both lungs were collapsed and she was needing o2 100% of the time.

These both take time.  Some rehab can be done at home.  But it needs to be something that we can reasonably do.  Which is not where we are at.

She bit her bottom lip with a seizure the other day and plus they are dry from all the bipap air.  ( yes it is humidified).  I like to use 100% lanolin (nipple cream) on them, but the pharmacy was out for all of last week.  I kept asking them every day, and they finally got some in yesterday.  So I bought some.  We should be good in a day or 2.

That lanolin is the best! I'm sure Ellie will appreciate soft lips again.
